Where Tarzan got his name
Tarzana
Yes, really: Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs bought a ranch here in 1919 and named it "Tarzana." Today it's one of the Valley's liveliest stretches of Ventura Boulevard — cafés, boutiques and buzzy restaurants — with the Caballero Canyon trailhead climbing straight into the Santa Monica Mountains.

Porter Ranch
The Valley's newest master-planned community climbs the foothills of the Santa Susana Mountains, trading in big views, hillside trails and fresh air. The Vineyards at Porter Ranch anchors an open-air afternoon of shopping and dining high above the city lights.

Cherry-blossom spring
Lake Balboa
Every spring, hundreds of Japanese cherry trees blush pink around Lake Balboa in the Sepulveda Basin — the Valley's answer to the tidal basin. Paddle boats, wide green lawns, the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve and miles of the LA River bike path make this the Valley's great outdoor playground.
